Odaimoku

Odaimoku is the sacred title of the Lotus Sutra. The title “Lotus Sutra” is actually a shortened or abbreviated title that we use as sort of a short form when referring to a particular teaching of the Buddha. The full or complete title is “The Wonderful Dharma of the Lotus Flower Sutra”.

Nichiren Shonin advocated the single most important practice for Buddhist in the Latter Age of Degeneration, the period corresponding to roughly 2000 years after the death of the Buddha, is to chant the full title of the Lotus Sutra or Sacred Title, which is termed Odaimoku.

The Sacred Title is written in its Chinese characters as:
南無妙法蓮華経
