Here are links to articles that appear on this blog that deal with certain subjects that seem to be recurring. Frequently at the temple I am asked to explain a concept or some piece of doctrine. Here you will find some of those answers.

Lotus Sutra Lectures – A seven part lecture series given over the summer of 2011. These are audio recordings only.

On Death and Rebirth A collection of articles which discuss the issue of death, dying, and rebirth.

Sangha – The Sangha is one of the Three Jewels in Buddhism along with The Buddha and the Dharma. Here is a collection of articles on this topic.

How Do I Get A Gohonzon? A short article explaining a little about my policy of conferring Gohonzon.

On Gassho This article talks about the significance of the term and the hand mudra of Gassho.

Comparison of Lotus Sutra Translations – frequently folks wish to know which translation of the Lotus Sutra they should acquire. Here I lay out some considerations to make when choosing.

Daily Service In this article I explain the significance of some of the rituals we perform as part of our daily service, as well as their importance to our individual practice.

On Meditation This article is the text of a brochure that is made available at the temple. Meditation, as explained in this brochure, can be done in many different ways. Here at this temple we consider reciting the sutra and chanting the Odaimoku as one of many forms of meditation.

Buddhism – Religion or Philosophy This Dharma talk given April 3, 2011 tires to answer the question frequently asked as to whether Buddhism is a religion or a philosophy. This does not attempt to definitively resolve this frequently asked question, but merely outlines my view on the subject.

Non-Violence in Buddhism This article is taken from a brochure published by the Nichiren Buddhist International Center. This is not my work.

Ohigan & Six Paramitas – This will take you to a page containing links to various articles which deal with Ohigan and the Six Paramitas.

Karma This post is taken from an article written by Ryuei Shonin with his permission.

Why do we use Shonin as our title? It was decided in 2010 by the Nichiren Order of North America ministers that we would begin using the title Shonin in stead of Reverend.

Dharma Quotes

I have expounded many sutras. I am now expounding this sutra. I also will expound many sutras in the future. The total number of the sutras will amount to many thousands of billions. This Sutra of the Lotus Flower of the Wonderful Dharma is the most difficult to believe and the most difficult to understand. Medicine-King! This sutra is the store of the hidden core of all the Buddhas. — Buddha, Lotus Sutra Chapter 10

  • Long Road From Stonewall May 9, 2012 - Today the President of the United States, POTUS, made an historic declaration of his belief that same sex couples should be permitted to marry. Growing up as a gay male I never expected to see this day, nor many of the days of recent years that have provided homosexuals with equality. While serving our country during the Vietnam War as a Marine I did so in fear of discovery. When going out at night I did so in fear of discovery. Later on living with my partner who was a career Navy man we both lived in fear of discovery. Who would have imagined that now, I can be open at work and in all aspects of my life without those same fears. And then today I can be gay and have a president of the United States say that he thinks I am and others like me, are entitled to be married. It's been a long road from Stonewall. ×0
  • Interfaith Service Against Genocide Sunday, April 29, 2012 - members from many faith communities came together in Chelmsford, MA to remember the victims of genocide from ancient times to the present. 525 pounds of rice was used to represent then 11.9 million lives taken in the Holocaust. ×0
  • GPS April 26, 2012 - Today, while walking in the forest at Weir National Historic Site the path I was walking on vanished. Rather than turning around I continued along. Finally I realized I was lost. I took out my phone and using the GPS I was able to find a road and the walk back to the park entrance. In life when you stumble or loose your way, is chanting Odaimoku your GPS? ×0
